Who is Writing This?

This blog consists of two parts. One is serious, the other satirical. I trust you, my readers, to differentiate the silly from the earnest, but remember always that behind every joke there usually stands a tragedy. I write about happiness, unhappiness, employment, government, principles, money, power, relationships, superiority, inferiority, law, war, current events, history, and all the other things that mark our great human civilization. The bottom line is that you will find criticism here. I do not look at the world with contented eyes. There is a tension--at least in American life--between the principles that supposedly animate us and the reality we seek for ourselves, both publicly and privately. My posts will explore that tension. They will sometimes mock it, but will always expose it. To that end, tread carefully. Do not jump to conclusions about "what I actually think;" in many cases, I aim simply to demonstrate things, not to convince. By understanding the hypocrisies and injustices that criscross our little world, we can better understand how to improve ourselves, at least as individuals. And at the end of the day, that is all we have.
